Miscellaneous Information

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Here’s where you’ll see any information that doesn’t fit into a major category or announcement, such as comments on Twitter from the project lead.

“Keep the faith, it's appreciated! We’re still working through final plans and will share more when we are ready, but I can definitely say that Halo Infinite will not include real-money loot boxes.” - Chris Lee, Sep 19, 2018.

In response to concern around the news that Halo Infinite would most likely have microtransactions, Chris Lee explained that the game will not feature any paid loot boxes. Unlike Halo 5, where you could purchase randomized REQ Packs, Halo Infinite will not feature any paid randomized rewards.

“We're also very excited to announce that some of these products will include a special code that can be redeemed for exclusive Halo Infinite in-game content!
Please be aware that Mega Construx Halo Infinite code redemption isn't available yet. The page and required systems are targeted to go live in August, directly here on Halo Waypoint (halowaypoint.com/redeem in case you'd like to bookmark it now).” - Mega Construx Halo Infinite Code Redemption Waypoint Article, Jul 1, 2020.

Some of the Mega Construx Halo Infinite sets will come with codes to unlock exclusive in-game content for the game. It is unknown at this time what this content entails, but it will most likely be cosmetic in nature. The page will not be available until August, but it is featured on Halo Waypoint itself, rather than relying on Xbox Live codes. This new unlock system seems unnecessary for a game sold through the Microsoft Store, but it makes much more sense when coupled with the possibility that Infinite will sell on Steam. This article may provide us with enough evidence to indicate that Halo Infinite will be available through Steam as well as the Microsoft Store.

“343 confirmed that Infinite will get a free raytracing update sometime after launch.” - IGN, Jul 23, 2020

Halo Infinite will receive a free ray tracing update following its launch, which will work especially well with the dynamic lighting system associated with the day/night cycle.

“Hey everyone I saw some reports of campaign supporting 4 player Split screen for campaign and just want to correct. Halo Infinite will be supporting 2 player split screen and 4 player online co-op for campaign. Sorry about the confusion. #haloinfinte” - Jerry Hook, Jul 24, 2020

The head of design at 343 has clarified how split-screen and co-op will work for Halo Infinite’s Campaign. As in most previous Halo titles, Halo Infinite will support 2-player split-screen for Campaign and 4-player online co-op. Note that multiplayer has not been discussed yet, so the game may still support 4-player multiplayer split-screen.

“Halo is for everyone. We can confirm #HaloInfinite multiplayer will be free-to-play and will support 120FPS on Xbox Series X. More details will be shared later!” - 343 Industries, Jul 31, 2020

In one of the most quickly confirmed leaks I’ve seen as a Halo fan, the official Halo account confirmed that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free-to-play and support 120FPS on Xbox Series X! These two details are extremely significant for the future of Halo multiplayer. For one, the last mainline title was Halo 5: Guardians, which just set the standard for flawless 60FPS multiplayer. Now, on the Xbox Series X and presumably supported PCs, the framerate will reach 120FPS in multiplayer, which is quite the leap. Furthermore, the advent of a free-to-play Halo multiplayer experience will give more players than ever before the opportunity to try Halo. Of course, that does raise some concerns over monetization, and it seems likely that some sort of Season Pass will feature in the game. Ultimately, time will tell what we can expect from Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, and you can expect to see those details in this document when they have been revealed.

“Palmer in Infinite?” - The Eld (@TheEld2)
“yes” - Jennifer Hale (@jhaletweets), Aug 3, 2020

Although many probably expected her character to return, Jennifer Hale confirmed that Spartan Sarah Palmer would appear once again in Halo Infinite. We do not yet know if she will play a role in the Campaign or if she will be relegated to a multiplayer announcer as in Halo 5: Guardians’ Warzone mode.

“Yes, Challenges! You'll also have those Swaps, which you can get different ways (in-game, promos, etc), that let you change certain ones if they aren't your cup of tea. The Challenge system will help you move through the progression system or unlock items outright (think MCC!)” - John Junyszek (@Unyshek), Oct 28, 2020

After learning about Challenge Swaps from the upcoming Game Better with Butterfinger Promotion, there was some speculation about whether Halo Infinite would offer a Challenge system. Thankfully, Junyszek confirmed that the Challenge system will be similar to the one in Halo: The Master Chief Collection in that it will allow players to move through the progression system and, in some cases, directly unlock items. Furthermore, Challenge Swaps will allow a player to swap out one challenge for a different one should they not want to complete it.

“I’ll be Spartan Griffin [in Halo Infinite].” - Verlon Roberts, Mar 15, 2021

(WARNING: This post may contain minor spoilers. Proceed at your own risk.) This video interview is nearly 2 hours long, but the section of interest begins around the 1:10:00 mark. Here, voice actor Verlon Roberts discusses his role in Halo Infinite. In addition to mentioning that the release date has been pushed to November (which, while likely, hasn’t officially been announced yet), he explained that he will be playing a character called Spartan Griffin. His role had him performing with the mocap actor for Master Chief, so, unless something has changed, it’s possible we’ll see him as an important side character in cutscenes. Spartan Griffin isn’t a brand new character, however. He’s actually a Spartan-IV in Fireteam Taurus, led by Spartan Commander Palmer, and he was first seen in the novel Halo: Shadows of Reach.

“That’s why we’re excited to announce Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases later this year… We have been working closely with the PC community to ensure that Halo Infinite offers a premier PC experience, including highly desired features such as support for ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, a wide variety of advanced graphics options and more.” - Matt Booty, April 29, 2021

Ahead of the April 29, 2021 Inside Infinite blog, an Xbox Wire article written by Matt Booty provides a sneak preview of some of the features coming with Halo Infinite, given it will be releasing on PC day one. In particular, he mentions multiplayer cross-play, cross-progression, support for ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, and advanced graphics options.

"each partnered Team has designed their own in-game content which will be sold in the game on day 1 of Halo Infinite’s release, with more drops releasing over time. Of course, Teams will receive a significant portion of the revenue from each sale." - Tashi

On the HCS side of things, it has been confirmed that partnered teams have designed in-game content to be sold in Halo Infinite starting on day one. Much of the revenue from these sales will go directly to the team who created them, so it is reasonable to expect these items to be available only for paying players.

"My team also gets to work on awesome MP systems like...the Mark System, which is a feature where players can mark a spot in the world that lets their teammates know vital information, like an enemy position or weapon location." - Andrew Witts

In his 343 Employee Spotlight, Lead Multiplayer Designer Andrew Witts confirmed that Halo Infinite will feature a pinging system called the Mark System to mark enemy positions, weapon locations, and other important locational information. This will be the first full-feature ping system in a Halo multiplayer.

"In return for their investment, the partnership with Teams starts with in-game content where they will receive a significant share of the revenue. Each partnered team will have multiple bundles released within Halo Infinite, [with] the prior bundle being placed into the vault as the next one releases." - Tashi

In Halo Infinite, HCS Teams will be able to create their own themed in-game content bundles, which will be available exclusively for purchase in the Shop. Much of the revenue from these bundles will go directly to the associated Team. Each Team will have multiple bundles available. When a new bundle is released for a given Team, that Team's previous bundle will be vaulted from the Shop and no longer available for purchase, so be sure to watch for these bundles if you're interested in supporting one or more HCS Teams.

"Game Pass Ultimate members will also receive monthly multiplayer bonuses as part of the Perks program." - Matt Booty

In a recent Inside Infinite blog, it was announced that some Halo Infinite Multiplayer cosmetics would be obtainable through Game Pass Ultimate. Here, we learn that these cosmetics will be available on a monthly basis through the Game Pass Ultimate Perks program.
